Cardinham Woods in Bodmin is the Forestry Commission’s premiere recreation site. Situated in the breathtaking valley of the Cardinham Water river, it contains trails suitable for riders of all cycling abilities.
There are several miles of gravel tracks (‘forest roads’) meandering through the woods and alongside the river. Cyclists are welcome to explore these routes, and share them with the many walkers, families, dog walkers, and horse riders who also enjoy the woods.
For those wanting more of a challenge, there is also the blue (moderate) graded Bodmin Beast cycle trail. 12km of single track, with climbs, descents and technical features you’ll need a good level of fitness to complete the route.
Bikes are available for hire in nearby Bodmin and Wadebridge. If you’re looking for easier terrain, we would recommend trying the ever popular Camel Trail - 18 miles of mainly traffic-free cycling on an historic railway track, running from Padstow to Wenfordbridge, via Wadebridge and Bodmin.
Used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders the route is flat and mostly suitable for disabled access. Take in the scenic estuary, farmland and woodlands you pass through, as well as bustling towns and villages and historic landscapes. There are many places from which you can start the trail and do as much or as little as you like.
