1SW BIKE TRAILS

Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire sits in stunning countryside between the Severn Estuary and Wye Valley, close to the border with Wales. Cannop Cycle Centre is situated on the B4234 between Coleford and Cinderford.

The saddle of a bike is an ideal place from which to explore the historic landscape of this area. Cannop Cycle Centre is the starting point for a range of trails for novices to experienced riders, taking you on a journey deep into the forest.

The green (easy) grade Family Cycle Trail takes you on a 10 mile loop deep into the forest, with links to Beechenhurst Lodge, Mallards Pike Lake, and neighbouring towns. The blue (moderate) grade Verderer’s Trail and the red (difficult) grade Freeminer’s Trail will both test your fitness and technical ability.

You can find out more about trail grading to find a trail that suits you.

There is also a choice of two skills loops to help you develop your off-road cycling skills.

Parking has been extended  with funding, and the cafe at Pedalabikeaway has been expanded by the new owners, made possible by the increasing popularity of the cycle trails.

How to get there: Take the B4226 Coleford – Cinderford road and at the crossroads with the B4234, turn north and follow the signs to the Cycle Centre.

For more information visit the Forestry Commission’s Forest of Dean webpages.
