After 5 years of hard work and dedication, Paul Hawkins has left as Project Manager, to join Sustrans in Devon.
Paul was recruited as the ‘South West Off-Road Cycling Initiative Co-ordinator’ in July 2008, with the remit of securing funding to realise the partnership’s goal of developing a number of quality, flagship cycle hubs across the region. Within months he found himself preparing a funding bid to submit to the Rural Development Programme for England, with the aim of funding all the hub sites in one go. The bid was successful and was born.
It hasn’t been easy to deliver a £4.6m, multi-partner, region-wide project on time and to budget and plenty of challenges have been thrown our way. But as a team we’ve dealt with them to establish a reputation for well-designed, quality, fun cycle trails, and that’s due in no small part to Paul’s support and leadership. We wish him all the best in his new role – we’re sure we’ll be crossing paths again!
The project will finish on 31st December this year when our funding comes to an end. The remaining team (all two of us!) are now focussed on completing the final two trails at Lanhydrock, near Bodmin in Cornwall and at Plymbridge Woods on the edge of Plymouth in Devon, by the end of the year.
