Earlier in September, PhD researcher Neil Ormerod and fellow team members Mark Garford and Richard Tinsley successfully completed their Scottish coast to coast challenge from Ardnamurchan to Montrose, in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
From the beginning, the journey lived up to its reputation as being the ultimate off-road challenge in the UK. The true difficulty of the trip became apparent on day one, when team member Richard Tinsley fell off and dislocated his shoulder. Fortunately this incident didn’t curtail the expedition or require the team to use their charity donations to pay for a helicopter rescue!
Undaunted by this initial setback, the team continued on their 9 day expedition, covering a total of 240 miles, which included conquering the 900m summit of Mount Keen, Scotland’s most easterly Munro in order to reach the finish at Montrose.
The team would like to thank everyone who has supported their trip. Donations and messages of support on their JustGiving site have been overwhelming, enabling the team to raise over £1000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, smashing their initial target of £720!
