Gawton Gravity Hub

Gawton Gravity Hub, Maddacleave Woods, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8JN

Woodland Riders Mountain Bike Club, the non-profit group run by volunteers and the people behind the Gawton and Tavi Woods downhill tracks in Devon are changing their name. A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes in the last twelve months following the award of grant funding obtained in partnership with the Tamar Valley AONB, to develop the site and improve the facilities. To relaunch the sites and to expand beyond their local club roots, the club is renaming itself ʻGawton Gravity Hubʼ, so people know where they are and what they can expect when they get there, the best permanent downhill mountain bike venue in England.

To support this development, Gawton Gravity Hub has teamed up with Koo Bikes, who will be providing support with the development of facilities and podium prizes for the on-going .

The new Track 4 at Gawton being test ridden.

The first of the improvements to be completed is a new fourth track. After a year’s sweat, blood and toil (and quite a few doughnuts!) the new freeride track at Gawton Gravity Hub is nearly ready, but it needs a name. Gawton Gravity Hub are offering a great pair of Spy Klutch goggles supplied by Koo Bikes, a year’s free membership of Gawton Gravity Hub and the chance to be the first person to officially ride the new track on its opening day, to the person who comes up with the best name. With massive berms, smooth tables, whoops, hips, rock gardens, steps and drops, this 1200m long track offers a progression between the fast and flowy red single track of HSD and the technical, steep, bench cut black run of Super Tavi.

Visit their new , get creative and enter your suggestion. Entries close 30th April 2012. After a few final tweaks the track will be ready to ride soon, but note that the planned opening date of 7th May has been postponed due to the recent wet and windy weather delaying work. If you subscribe to the Facebook page you can be the first to find out about the opening dates of the new facilities that will make Gawton Gravity Hub the best purpose built, permanent downhill mountain bike venue in the country. Coming this season, a trail centre hut with snacks, bike wash and toilets and a minibus uplift service.

You must be a day or year member to ride at Gawton Gravity Hub and Tavi Woods. The tracks are open dawn ʻtill dusk, 365 days a year. Membership can be purchased online at www.gawtongravityhub.co.uk or from Dartmoor Cycles in Tavistock.
