The resurgent popularity of recreational and competition cycling over the past 25 years has brought with it many issues and problems regarding cyclists’ access to, and use, of roads and public rights of way, and the provision of additional routes.

Cyclists are not as active in rights of way work as are walkers and horse riders, and as a consequence there is no body of reports, advice and good practice available, other than for urban cycling provision.

Notes & Materials on the Law of Cycling in the Countryside aims to plug that gap. It is not a text book on cycling law, rather it is about how the law, regulations and administrative processes work – or all too frequently do not work – in practice.
